MOTO X

MOTO X

1) Active display
This feature is so addictive that I am not buying any other phone that does not have active display. It is this significant. Just lift the phone, or take it out of your pocket and the screen shows all the information you need in a battery efficient way without you having to press the power button.
2) Touchless control
Give commands to your phone without turning the screen on. While going to bed, and my phone is lying somewhere else in the room, I just say "OK Google now, wake me up at 7 AM" and that's it. No need to touch the phone. Also just say "Ok Google now, what's up" and the phone will say the time and read your notifications :)
Note : This feature requires Internet connectivity.
3) Flick wrist to launch Camera
This is not a gimmick and works everytime. Need I say more. You can say this can be achieved by other apps but the key here is achieving this without sacrificing battery life.
4) Motorola Spotlight stories
Moto has teamed up with Pixar animation studios and produced wonderful animated stories. Nothing to add to the features of the phone but it is something that will make you smile, and everyone else will just look in awe and surprise.
This phone has Android 4.4.2 and timely updates. This phone received Android 4.4 even before the Nexus 4.
And to everyone comparing the hardware with the Nexus 5, just use the phone once. The phone has zero lag and the size is perfect too. The 720p screen is just enough at 4.7" screens.
The key here is that Motorola made a custom 8 core hardware for this phone. 2 core application processor, 4 core GPU, 1 core natural language processing and 1 core for contextual computing. The battery life is exactly as advertised
Cons :
The sound output from the speaker is not very loud. But again, it is not very low too.
Also No FM Radio, if you care about that.
Addressing the dual core processor. This has been emphasized upon enough already. DON'T go on the number of cores. The phone is super snappy, handles anything thrown at it. Plus at this price tag you get a flagship. Lesser cores mean more battery life. It is more about optimisation than the no. of cores. I’ve seen the mighty Samsung with its “8 cores” stutter and lag.
The screen is super amoled. Means you get superb contrast ratios. And saves battery! (The amoled screens don't use power for displaying blacks. So the display is basically switched off in all black areas)
The touch less control and the active display have the whole android community going gaga over it. Read the online reviews. It actually does understand things pretty accurately and trust me guys I've stopped dialling people, setting alarms, setting memos, searching on the web manually. All you need is to ask google now!
The camera is not bad but isn't that great either but as mentioned few posts before it will get you through everyday clicks, if you want something more, buying a camera would be more prudent.
It packs 2 gigs of ram, enough to handle anything thrown at it. Multitasking is a breeze.
The GPU is a quad core Adreno 320 chip. It handles every game I've tried on it, completely lag free, and I consider myself as a heavy gamer.
The phone supports 4G LTE for all those looking for that.
The design of the phone is such that it's very easy and comfortable to hold in your hand. I know this hardly sounds like something you'd care about but once you hold the device you'll know what I'm talking about.
The charger is 1150mA and charges the phone from 0 to 100 in a little less than 2 hrs. Pretty quick.
The speaker is loud! And has really good sound. While using earphones you can't keep the volume at full. Yes, it's that loud! Superb sound quality. The built in audio effects are great.
Enough of the praises, now for some cons:
The phone heats up occasionally with heavy usage while it's on charge. This had happened twice. I had 3G on too. But this is true for any mobile nowadays because of so many things packed into such a small device with no actual cooling mechanism. My advice, don't put a back cover.
There's no SD card expansion slot. You get 16 gigs out of which 12 is usable.
The silver lining? The phone supports OTG meaning you can connect pen drives to the phone!
Now coming to the battery life, the company claims 24 hrs, I haven’t been able to get that. With normal usage, I get around 18 hrs, not bad. With heavy usage, includes gaming, excessive texting, browsing, 3G always on, it’s more of 8 hrs. So that’s for you to decide.
I’ve tried to be unbiased in this review. And weigh both pros and cons, which I actually did before going for this device. I hope this helps you.
